Arsenal set an unprecedented new record across all of English football in their comprehensive 4-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium at the Emirates Stadium.

After a tricky opening half an hour, the Gunners romped home to a comfortable win over the Toffees, courtesy of first half goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, followed by a second-half effort from captain Martin Odegaard. Gabriel Martinelli added his second, and Arsenal’s fourth of the night with ten minutes left to play as they underlined their title credentials in style.

In doing so, they set a new record in English football. Mikel Arteta’s side became the first side, in any English division, to reach 100 League wins against the same side. Given that Arsenal and Everton are two of just six sides never to have been relegated from the Premier League, it is perhaps no surprise to see the pair feature in this impressive stat.

The result leaves the two sides at completely opposite ends of the table, with Arsenal now five points clear at the top of the Premier League, and 11 points clear of third placed Manchester United.

Perhaps more importantly, their goal difference has moved to within six of Pep Guardiola’s side before the two clubs meet in April at the Etihad in a potential title showdown.

Everton, on the other hand, have dropped back into the relegation zone despite two wins in their last five games, and do not play another side in the bottom six until the penultimate day of the season when they face Wolves, before a potentially crucial final day showdown with Bournemouth.
