Match preview
After these two clubs enjoyed contrasting fortunes in the FA Cup this week, it’s back to important league business for both.
For Brighton & Hove Albion, this season just keeps on getting better and better.
On Tuesday night, Evan Ferguson was the only scorer as the Seagulls beat Stoke in the FA Cup.
They’ll now host fourth-tier Grimsby Town later this month, knowing a win would see them reach the semi-finals for just the third time in the club’s history.
In the Premier League, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are also flying high in eighth place, having played three games less than Fulham, the side currently occupying the final potential European spot.
So, will Brighton’s record-breaking campaign continue?
Saïd Benrahma broke the deadlock at Old Trafford, with a stunning curler, but a trio of late goals, the first of which was a Nayef Aguerd own goal, saw Man United progress.
David Moyes’ men are still fighting on two fronts, and will resume their Europa Conference League campaign this forthcoming Thursday, taking on AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.
Back in the Premier League, the Irons enjoyed their biggest home victory since September 2020 last weekend, demolishing Nottingham Forest 4-0.
Danny Ings bagged a brace, while Declan Rice also fired home a thunderbolt, before Michail Antonio completed the rout.
This saw the Hammers climb out of the relegation zone and into 16th, albeit only two points clear of danger.
West Ham have never beaten Brighton in the Premier League, losing five of 11 encounters, so will this trend continue in Sussex by the Sea?
Brighton & Hove Albion team news
Roberto De Zerbi rotated his squad for Tuesday’s trip to Stoke, handing opportunities to Jason Steele, Jan Paul van Hecke, Tariq Lamptey, Facundo Buonanotte and Jeremy Sarmiento.
Here though, Robert Sánchez will be back in goal, with Adam Webster rekindling his partnership alongside Lewis Dunk at the back.
Danny Welbeck came off the bench in that game, thwacking a late shot against the post, with this his first action for almost a month.
Adam Lallana could miss the rest of the season injured, so Pascal Groß will continue to partner Moisés Caicedo in midfield.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sánchez; Veltman, Dunk, Webster, Estupiñán; Caicedo, Groß, Mac Allister, March, Mitoma; Ferguson.
West Ham United team news
David Moyes switched to a back four for Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford, so it’ll be interesting to see what he goes with here.
This was largely a result of Lucas Paquetá being fit again so, if Moyes does revert to a back five, Tomáš Souček will miss out.
Łukasz Fabiański was taken off injured last weekend against Nottingham Forest with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone.
If he’s not fit, Alphonse Areola will continue to deputise.
Danny Ings could not play in mid-week, he’s cup-tied, but will surely return to lead the line here.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Areola; Aguerd, Kehrer, Ogbonna; Coufal, Rice, Paquetá, Emerson; Bowen, Benrahma, Ings.
