Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool could be set to come to grips in the summer transfer market as both clubs look to add quality in the center of the park, and could be made to fight it out for the signature of AS Monaco’s French midfield starlet Aurélien Tchouaméni.

The 22-year-old native of Rouen has been a revelation at the Stade Louis II since his arrival in the summer from Girondins de Bordeaux before the 2020-21 Ligue 1 campaign, and immediately cemented his place in the heart of the midfield for the Monégasques.

But like many youngsters before him to shine for the principality outfit, greener pastures await the French international as Chelsea and Liverpool look to reload for next season.

According to reports in Foot Mercato, referenced by Get French Football, “Real Madrid are notably interested in Tchouaméni as a summer reinforcement, especially given their aging midfield options. Paris Saint-Germain has also been keeping tabs for the last few months, although the ongoing uncertainty within the club’s management could affect a potential deal. In England, Liverpool and Chelsea are the clubs following the former Bordeaux man, although the latter side’s off-field issues could hamper a move. In any case, the midfielder would not be sold for less than €50m, with 20% of profits from the transfer going to Bordeaux.”

With Real Madrid keen as well as Paris Saint-Germain, it could prove difficult for either the Blues or the Reds to convince Tchouaméni to opt for a Premier League move over the chance to potentially play with Kylian Mbappé, Eduardo Camavinga, and Ferland Mendy in Madrid or to stay in France and ply his trade for PSG. Stranger things, though, have certainly happened.

Chelsea see-off Middlesbrough to reach FA Cup semi-finals

A two-goal lead inside the first thirty minutes was enough for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to see off Middlesbrough in front of their home support at the Riverside Stadium earlier today, and book a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

A possible date with either Manchester City or Liverpool looms in the next round, but Thomas Tuchel’s men remain in the hunt for silverware under the German tactician this season despite being well off the pace in the Premier League and with a date with Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League looming large.

With questions about what club ownership will look like in the immediate future, today’s result was the perfect distraction – however temporary – for Chelsea as they look to find firm footing off the pitch.
