This article provides betting tips information for Crystal Palace vs Leeds in the Premier League on Sunday 9 October 2022.

Match preview

Crystal Palace had every right to feel aggrieved after seeing a 1-0 lead evaporate into a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea last week, making it four league matches without a win and leaving them with just one victory to their name all season.

The contentious decision not to send off Thiago Silva for handball proved a pivotal point in the game, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalising six minutes later to cancel out Odsonne Edouard’s opener and setting Chelsea on their way to the three points, before Conor Gallagher condemned his former club to further misery with a 90th-minute winner.

It typifies Palace’s season so far, having expected to improve on a promising first season under Patrick Vieira but so far struggling to 17th in the table with just six points from seven games, a negative goal difference, just a single victory and a lack of key players in form.

One positive for fans to cling onto however was Vieira’s bold selection in putting Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze in midfield, undoubtedly an attacking call that ultimately failed to pay off but shows the positive way in which he approaches big matches. While it may not have paid off last week, the inclusion of five such attacking players – including the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Edouard and Jordan Ayew – will cause a lot of teams problems and should cause this Leeds team issues at the back.

Although it could cause the visitors problems, it will undoubtedly make the game rather more open than the drab 0-0 that played out towards the end of last season, which saw the Peacocks barely lay a glove on the hosts as they scrapped for Premier League survival.

Luis Sinisterra is the obvious casualty for Jesse Marsch’s side following a red card in a fractured draw against Aston Villa, but his absence could be a blessing in disguise for the Whites with Brendan Aaronson moving out wide to allow Patrick Bamford to return to the line-up and lead the line against one of his former clubs.

Whatever combination either side looks to, it is likely to be a close game without only a goal either side likely to prove enough for three points.

101’s Tip

The two teams are closely matches, playing out a goalless draw at the end of last season and sharing a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly in Australia. The draw has to be the favourite outcome here, but if there is to be a winner expect it to be by a narrow margin with just a goal in it and most likely less than 2.5 goals altogether, with neither side wanting to lose out to a direct rival.
