Match preview

Will Leeds United’s alarming run of results continue?

A fortnight ago, Javi Gracia supplied a much-needed new manager bounce as the Whites beat Southampton 1-0 at home.

However, last weekend, they came splatting right back down to earth, beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

So, having taken just seven points from their last 12 outings, Leeds kick off 17th, above the relegation places by virtue of goal difference alone.

In stark contrast, Brighton & Hove Albion are in terrific form, dreaming of European qualification.

Last Saturday, the Seagulls demolished West Ham 4-0 with Alexis Mac Allister, Joël Veltman, Kaoru Mitoma and then Danny Welbeck all scoring at the Amex.

This is the start of a big week for Brighton, who host fierce rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday, before an FA Cup quarter-final against Grimsby on Sunday.

The Seagulls are unbeaten in the Premier League against Leeds, winning three out of five, with this streak set to continue at Elland Road.

Leeds United team news

With Patrick Bamford a doubt and Rodrigo out long-term, January signing Georginio Rutter could continue to lead the line.

Wilfried Gnonto, who was on fire earlier this year, could return to the XI, possibly in place of Jack Harrison.

Pascal Struijk scored a stoppage time equaliser when these two last met in Yorkshire; it was only ten months ago, but a lot has changed at both clubs since, not least both managers.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Meslier; Ayling, Koch, Wöber, Firpo; Adams, McKennie, Aaronson; Summerville, Gnonto, Rutter.

Brighton & Hove Albion team news

Despite Danny Welbeck’s goal off the bench last weekend, 18 year old Evan Ferguson will keep his place up front.

Joël Veltman also scored as a substitute against West Ham, and he is likely to displace Tariq Lamptey at right-back.

In goal, Jason Steele surprisingly came in for Robert Sánchez, so will this continue to be the case?

Kaoru Mitoma’s amazing form continued in attack; he’s now scored seven times since the start of November.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Steele; Veltman, Dunk, Webster, Estupiñán; Caicedo, Groß, Mac Allister, March, Mitoma; Ferguson.
