Arsenal have been told that they will have to stump up just £18m to sign fullback Ferland Mendy this summer from Real Madrid as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of their first season back in the Champions League since 2017.

The Gunners qualified for Europe’s top competition once more through their excellent Premier League season, though as it stands it seems as though they will miss out on the Premier League title after a spell of three draws and a defeat saw Manchester City overtake them at the top of English football.

But Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to strengthen further this summer to ensure that this season isn’t only a flash in the pan, and left-back could be one of those positions where a change is made.

Though Oleksandr Zinchenko is undisputed first choice at the Emirates Stadium, there is speculation that Kieran Tierney could leave the club having been starved of minutes in north London this season.

Now firmly second-choice left-back, the Scot has picked up just five Premier League starts, and has been strongly linked with moves to both Manchester City and Newcastle United.

It means that Arsenal would need another option, and according to Sky Sports, they have identified fellow out of favour defender Ferland Mendy as one potential option.
