Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League after a 20-year hiatus could be in for some tough going across the 2023-24 campaign after club boss Eddie Howe confirmed summer transfer fears at St. James’ Park.
Despite spending over £50m on AC Milan and Italian international midfielder Sandro Tonali earlier this month, the Magpies will have to be creative if they are to continue to reinforce the senior team on Tyneside.

The Magpies have been linked with a number of possible moves this summer irrespective of the capture of Tonali, namely Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes, Jonathan David, and Federico Chiesa, but according to Howe himself, it will take more creativity in the market in order for Newcastle to add further depth into the team.
As it stands, the Magpies have added just Gambian starlet Yankuba Minteh into the fold apart from Tonali, while many are hopeful that the club adds another wide player into the mix and possibly another striker. Though Newcastle is expecting some out-goings as well, which could certainly fund another move or two, the club could struggle to reach the level of depth required to truly compete on all fronts.
