Liverpool have been in dire form so far this season, with their title hopes already all but over.

The Reds are currently 9th in the Premier League table after seven games. They have won just two of those matches, drawing four and losing the remaining game.

In the Champions League, meanwhile, Liverpool were smashed by Napoli and scraped a 2-1 win over Ajax in their last match.

So what is going wrong on Merseyside? Well, Arsene Wenger has provided an explanation for their struggles.

The Frenchman pointed toward the loss of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich as a key factor.

Wenger also put some of the blame on Darwin Nunez, as he was expected to come in and replace Mane but he is currently struggling for minutes:

“They are less efficient in winning the ball back than before. Nunez, at the moment, hasn’t worked out for them and they made a big investment. He’s sitting on the bench.

“They lost Mane, who was a top-level, big-game player. He had something (about him), an aggressive attitude and determination. He’d score no matter what happens, he’d make things happen.

“It’s difficult to measure how much (his departure) takes away. They miss something they had before.”

Liverpool are next in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Rangers in the Champions League. It is a must-win tie for Jurgen Klopp and co.
