Kylian Mbappé’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain is starting to get very serious.

The world’s most expensive player is entering the final year of his contract and he has informed the French champions that he has no desire to renew.

This leaves PSG in a very tricky predicament as they run the risk of losing the 24-year-old for nothing next summer, something which they simply cannot afford to happen.

The implications of losing Mbappé for free

Losing Kylian Mbappé for free next summer would leave PSG needing to fill a €175 million hole, according to the Athletic.

Such is their FFP situation, losing such a valuable asset for nothing means the French champions would need to generate serious funds.

Players would need to be sold and changes would need to happen in order for them to comply with FFP rules.

In the summer of 2022, PSG made Mbappé the best-paid player in Europe by giving him a contract until 2025 and wages worth €1million-per-week.

However, in reality, the contract was only a two-year extension as the third year was an option which only Mbappé himself could trigger.

This has now left PSG in a dangerous situation which they must resolve this summer.
