Match preview

Two sides fresh off altogether contrasting results in their respective returns to action earlier this week are set to lock horns in a Premier League clash at the City Ground on Sunday, January 1st.

The matchup in question will see a Nottingham Forest side battling against the drop play host to a Chelsea outfit desperate to kick on up the table in England’s top-flight.

Starting with the former, Forest – after enjoying a mini-resurgence of sorts courtesy of three wins on the trot across all competitions either side of the international break – were brought back down to earth with a thud this past Tuesday.

This came as goals on the part of all of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Fred condemned the Reds to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

Safe to say, then, that the upcoming visitors to the City Ground will no doubt be confident in their chances of adding to Forest’s woes on Sunday evening.

Chelsea, for their part, secured a much-needed return to winning ways in their own festive comeback earlier this week.

This came as a meeting with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge saw the Blues put a three-game losing streak firmly behind them, courtesy of goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.

Graham Potter’s men, though, are in no position to take their foot off the gas.

Owing to what has proven a hugely underwhelming season to date, Chelsea currently sit eight points off the top-4, and a further 11 points back of table-topping London rivals Arsenal.

Nothing but a 2nd win on the spin, in turn, will suffice at the City Ground on New Year’s Day.

And we at 101 are backing the Pensioners to secure precisely that, come the full-time whistle in England’s east Midlands.
