Reports linking Brazilian icon Neymar with a possible move to Old Trafford to join up with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been immediately shot down by ESPN’s Julien Laurens after French outlet L’Équipe suggested initial talks with the Paris Saint-Germain have begun.
In reports that were published earlier this evening, LE suggested that conversations involving a possible move for the 31-year-old star, both on a full deal but also possibly a loan, had begun to take place between United and the French champions amidst a change in direction regarding the senior squad at the Parc des Princes.
There has long been a reported impending retooling of the PSG first-team to build around star man Kylian Mbappé and change recruitment practices from a galacticos-type directive, and instead, build a younger side capable of organic growth while maintaining the French star as the undeniable center-piece in the city of lights.
As things stand, Lionel Messi is already likely to leave Paris in the summer, and many have speculated previously that a difficult internal relationship between Neymar and Mbappé already soured any further relationship.
Chelsea has previously been interested in the former Barcelona ace, and while United’s reported interest would see him become the next big name to arrive at Old Trafford after Cristiano Ronaldo, Laurens has shot down any notion that such discussions have gotten underway.
Neymar is sure to remain the subject of transfer speculation all summer, however, especially as PSG remain on the hunt for a key signing in the forward line during the summer window, making a possible full move – or a loan – a strong possibility.
