A hard-fought 90 minutes ultimately gave rise to a 2-1 result, with Rodrygo and the in-form Federico Valverde ensuring that Mario Hermoso’s late header proved little more than a consolation come the full-time whistle:

Another Real star to have played a key role in Los Merengues’ triumph on Sunday comes in the form of Aurelien Tchouameni.
It was in fact the youngster’s abilities in the attacking third, though, which proved crucial in the visitors opening the scoring this evening.
This came as Tchouameni’s delicate chipped pass split Diego Simeone’s backline wide open, allowing Rodrygo to lash home at Jan Oblak’s near post.
And, in the process, the former AS Monaco man secured for himself an impressive piece of history.
As per statisticians Opta, Tchouameni has become the 2nd youngest Real Madrid player to bag an assist on his derby debut against Atletico since the turn of the century.
The only Blancos star to have managed as much at a younger age? Compatriot Karim Benzema.
