Harry Maguire came close to leaving Manchester United over the summer but a deal failed to ever materialise.

West Ham United reportedly agreed a deal to sign the defender, however, United and Maguire failed to agree on a suitable pay-off.

The Hammers offered £30 million which was accepted by the Red Devils but Maguire’s £7 million demand to leave caused big issues.

Maguire claims that ultimately he and United were both happy for him to stay and fight for his place in the team at Old Trafford.

Maguire said: “They were happy for me to stay and I was happy to fight for my place”

Maguire said: “We just didn’t come to an agreement [to leave the club] and they were happy for me to stay and I was happy to fight for my place.

“At club football, I want to play games, I want to play football.

“But we have lots of games coming up now and I am sure I will play lots of games.”
