Fresh off the back of their first win of the season, Everton will travel to St Mary’s where Southampton are looking to register their third win of the campaign after a run of two games in the losing column.
The Saints have lost to Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in their last two matches, with a famous 2-1 victory over Chelsea coming just prior to this. Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong were the heroes that day, but with a 1-0 loss to Manchester United before that and a 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season means four losses now for Southampton.
Everton have only lost twice this season, but it was only the last game where the Toffees claimed all three points for the first time. Frank Lampard’s side defeated West Ham United thanks to a fantastic goal from Neal Maupay to end their six-game winless run in the league.
Other than this victory, all Everton had to shout about was a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park with rivals Liverpool, as they also blew a league to strugglers Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Leeds United to rack up four draws after seven games.
The fixture could go either way here given how both are on seven points. Both sides seem to have standout players carrying them these days, however, with all eyes on Che Adams of Southampton and Anthony Gordon for Everton.
