Brentford have won back-to-back meetings with Watford, last winning three on the bounce against them in 1931. However, they’re winless in eight visits to Vicarage Road, losing seven of them, last winning in Hertfordshire in a fourth-division meeting 45 years ago this month.

Will Brentford’s remarkable form continue?

Thus, many were concerned that Brentford would ‘do a Blackpool’ by starting well before fading and ultimately concluding their sole Premier League voyage with relegation.

Nevertheless, Thomas Frank’s side have rehoisted the mast by winning four of their last five, starting with crucial victories over Norwich and Burnley.

Then, the day after April Fools Day, the Bees pulled off a simply unfathomable 4-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, beating Chelsea for the first time since 1939.

Last Sunday, the front two of Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney set up each other to score in a comfortable 2-0 home victory over West Ham.

This resurgence means Brentford are now 13th and their tally of 36 points would’ve seen them survive in all but two of the last 14 seasons.

Now, the Bees are aiming to win three consecutive top-flight games for the first time since September 1946.

In stark contrast, Watford come into this one following nine successive home league defeats.

Another loss here would means Roy Hodgson has been beaten in his first five home games in charge of Watford.

The last Premier League manager to suffer this fate was Chris Ramsey, in charge of Queens Park Rangers, seven years ago.

The Hornets’ survival chances suffered another serious blow last Saturday with Leeds running out comfortable 3-0 winners in Hertfordshire.

So, having lost 14 of their last 19 games, Watford are six points from safety, and they still have to go to both Manchester City and Chelsea.

If they are to pull off a great escape, it’ll surely need to star here.

Back in December, Mbeumo’s 96th minute penalty sent the Brentford Community Stadium wild, snatching a 2-1 victory.

Will this one go the same way at Vicarage Road?

Watford team news

Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis scored one of his nine Premier League goals in the reverse fixture.

However, the Nigerian striker has now only scored once in 13 appearances with his form deteriorating to such an extent that he was on the bench last weekend.

It’ll be interesting to see if Roy Hodgson sticks with Cucho Hernández, João Pedro and Ismaïla Sarr as his front three.

In defence, both Samir and Hassane Kamara have been impressive since arriving in January.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster will make his 385th Premier League appearances, putting him joint-47th, alongside Ashley Cole.

Brentford team news

For Brentford meanwhile, it remains the Christian Eriksen show; they’ve won all four matches that he’s started.

He’s also helped the front two find their best form too.

Bryan Mbuemo is looking to provide an assist in four consecutive appearances; the last player to do that for a newly-promoted club is Chris Waddle 25 years ago.

He is also the leading scorer in Premier League history when only finding the net against sides who’s name begins with the same letter.

Luckily, for this game at least, Mbuemo’s four goals have all come against sides that begin with the letter W.

Ivan Toney meanwhile has scored eight goals in his last eight appearances, and netted home and away against Watford last season.

Meanwhile, the return to fitness of David Raya is the other key factor behind the Bees’ improved form.

They’ve won seven of 18 games with him between the sticks (39%) as oppose to just two wins from 14 without (14%).

Centre-back Pontus Jansson missed last weekend’s game injured and, if he’s still out, Mathias Jørgensen will continue to deputise.
