Busquets was the latest in a long line of top-level footballers that have jointly been targeted by both MLS as well as the Roshn Saudi League this summer as the two competitions went head-to-head to acquire some big names.
The 34-year-old icon deep-sitting midfielder has been at the forefront of the beautiful game since his breakout at boyhood club Barcelona in 2008 before embarking on a fifteen-year journey at Camp Nou alongside the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Lionel Messi to mold the club into one of the most dominant forces football has ever witnessed.
After calling time on his Barcelona connection in the best way possible after the club topped La Liga in 2022-23, Busquets fielded serious interest from Saudi Arabia on the back of PIF’s push to elevate the top four clubs in the Gulf state’s top competition, but the former Spanish international instead opted for one last chance to play alongside Messi while having a taste of football in the States.
He will have his work cut out for him, however, as both he and Messi have signed on to join a club in Inter Miami that currently sits 15th and bottom of the pile in the eastern conference. If anyone can rescure the club’s fortunes this season, surely two of the best players the world has seen across the last near two-decades.
