Italian giants Inter Milan have moved quickly to source a replacement for former star keeper André Onana after the recent Champions League finalist struck terms with Bayern Munich over a deal for Swiss international keeper Yann Sommer.

Per Fabrizio Romano, Inter has secured a deal in place after their €6m bid for the 34-year-old veteran shot-stopper was accepted by Bayern, with Sommer set to head to Milan on Sunday ahead of a medical before officially joining the club.

Sommer only spent six months at Bayern after German icon Manuel Neuer suffered a mid-season leg fracture while on a ski vacation in the wake of Germany’s early exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, featuring 25 times for the Bavarian juggernaut while ultimately helping the club pip bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund on the final day of action in the Bundesliga to seal their eleventh straight league title.

Before his move to Bayern, Sommer was a rock in goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach across eight-and-a-half seasons at Borussia Park and was widely viewed as one of the top keepers in the German top flight, making 335 appearances for Die Fohlen along the way.

With Inter back in the Champions League in the upcoming 2023-24 campaign, Sommer is sure to play a vital role in Lombardy after Onana was key in the club’s push on the continent last term.
