Match preview

Will Wolves’ resurgence under Julen Lopetegui continue?

Last weekend, Wolverhampton Wanderers came from behind to beat Southampton, despite having Mario Lemina inexplicably sent off in the first half.

A comedy own goal got Wolves back on level terms, before João Gomes fired home an 88th minute on his debut.

So, the Wanderers have now won four of seven matches since the World Cup, beating Everton, West Ham and Liverpool in this period.

As a result, Wolves have climbed up to 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone.

AFC Bournemouth meantime very much remain in the bottom three, above only Southampton.

Nevertheless, the Cherries have accumulated just two points from seven fixtures since the restart, and are generally sinking like a stone.

Given that Bournemouth have won just one away game this season, this at Nottingham Forest in August, a home win seems a safe bet at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news

Mario Lemina’s red card last weekend means he is suspended for this one.

So, it’s likely to be an all-Portuguese midfield trip of João Moutinho, Rúben Neves and Matheus Nunes.

In attack, with Daniel Podence out injured, Adama Traoré could enjoy a rare start.

Pedro Neto was an unused substitute at St Mary’s, but will be hoping for his first minutes since 1 October after a bad knee injury.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): José Sá; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Aït-Nouri; Moutinho, Neves, Nunes; Sarabia, Traoré, Cunha.

Bournemouth team news

Last weekend’s goalscorer Marcos Senesi was taken off injured, making him a doubt for this one.

If he’s not fit, Chris Mepham will come in; January signing Ilya Zabarnyi isn’t fit yet.

Other new signings Dango Ouattara and Hamed Junior Traorè will keep their places, but Matías Viña and Antoine Semenyo could remain on the bench.

Dominic Solanke will continue to lead the line, despite having not scored in the Premier League since 5 November.

Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Neto; Smith, Stephens, Mepham, Zemura; Lerma, Billing, Ouattara, Anthony, Traorè; Solanke.
