Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has, on Thursday, spoken out over the club’s decision to change manager, at such a crucial point in the campaign.

The subject of the bench at the Allianz Arena has of course come back to the fore in a major way over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after Bayern were sent packing from the Champions League, in frankly embarrassing fashion.

A 1-1 2nd leg stalemate with Manchester City saw the German champions condemned to the wrong side of a 4-1 aggregate scoreline, ending the club’s hopes of glory on the continent for another year.

In turn, it has come as little surprise to see the recent decision-making on the part of the powers that be in Bavaria called into serious question.

With just months remaining in the campaign, Bayern, of course, made the shock call to dismiss now-former boss Julian Nagelsmann, appointing one-time Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel in his place.

With predecessor Nagelsmann having guided Bayern to a dominant ousting of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League’s Last-16, club president Herbert Hainer was therefore today drawn on suggestions that he and the rest of the board may have acted prematurely in bringing in Tuchel late last month.

Hainer, however, was unwavering in his response, assuring that he would make the same call again, ‘definitely’.
