Heading into the summer transfer window, it was clear Liverpool needed to strengthen their midfield.
The Reds’ main target earlier in the season looked to be Jude Bellingham, but the cost of that transfer proved too much, and Jurgen Klopp’s side started prioritising other targets a few months ago. This allowed Real Madrid to swoop in and snap up Bellingham.
Liverpool have since signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for just £35m, with that deal made official earlier this week.
“It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait,” said Mac Allister on joining Liverpool.
“I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my team-mates.
“It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”
