The player in question is Assane Diao, who currently plies his trade with Real Betis’ second team.
According to a report from Fichajes, the 17-year-old winger has attracted the attention of Liverpool with his performances in the under-19 European Championship this summer.
Diao’s current contract runs out next summer, but the report adds that Real Betis are fighting to keep him at the club for the long term.
Liverpool will also seemingly face some competition for the Spaniard as German outfit RB Leipzig are keen on signing the winger as well.
Diao made his debut for Real Betis’ B team last season, going on to score four and assist two in 20 outings. He is a natural left-winger, meaning he would be unlikely to see much first-team action for Liverpool if they were to sign him as all of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo can operate in that position for the Reds.
Diao was last in action for Spain’s under-19 side when he came off the bench in a 2-1 win over Iceland. Liverpool fans may also be able to watch him on Friday afternoon when Spain take on Greece.
