The player in question is Goncalo Inacio of Portuguese side, Sporting.
Inacio is just 21 years of age and has spent his entire career at Sporting where he has already notched over 120 appearances for their senior side. The centre-back has also been called up to the Portuguese national team, and earned his debut during the March international break.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool will face competition from Chelsea who are looking to bring in a central defender as well.
The defender reportedly has a €45 million release clause in his contract – a fee neither side should have any issue affording.
On paper, Inacio would likely get more minutes if he signed for the Reds. Liverpool have four senior centre-backs at present but Joel Matip is getting on and Joe Gomez’s form has been poor for a while.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have Levi Colwill, Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah competing for what is expected to be just two places next season.
