As 101 covered earlier this week, Liverpool saw a £37m opening offer for teenage star Romeo Lavia turned down by Southampton, with the Saints holding out for £50m to part ways with the Belgian talent.
Another report from The Athletic then claimed that Liverpool are set to make an improved offer for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, with Southampton indeed said to be holding out for an overall package in the region of £50m
Now, it appears the Reds could be facing some late competition for the Belgian.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Chelsea are prepared to go all in for Romeo Lavia, even beating any offer that Liverpool might put on the table.
Crucially, though, Jacobs adds that Lavia is still sold on Liverpool and a move to Anfield remains more likely at this stage.
Should Liverpool miss out on Lavia to Chelsea, they face kicking off the new season with Stefan Bajcetic as their only defensive midfielder thanks to Fabinho and Jordan Henderson heading to Saudi Arabia.
