According to journalist Ignazio Genuardi, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone has been approached by Liverpool.
Chelsea – who were first credited with an interest back in March – and Newcastle also remain keen on the midfielder, who is under contract until June of 2025 with Gladbach and has an extra year as an option. Kone is very popular with the Magpies, who are looking for two reinforcements in central midfield.
No transfer fee is mentioned in the report but as Kone is only 22 and has a decent length left on his current deal, a fairy high fee is expected to be needed to see Gladbach part with him.
Liverpool have already brought in one midfielder this summer, snapping up 2022 World Cup winner Alexis Mac Alister from Brighton for just £35m.
However, after Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left Anfield on free transfers at the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp will likely need another midfielder through the door as he fights to get Liverpool back into the top-four and challenging for the league title.
Kone made 31 appearances across 2022/23, scoring one and assisting one for his current side.
