Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay has agreed to join Championship side Preston North End on a season-long loan after Jurgen Klopp decided it would be best for his development.

Ramsey made just two appearances for Liverpool’s senior side in 2022/23, featuring for 90 minutes in a League Cup match vs Derby and coming off the bench for three minutes in the Champions League vs Napoli.

According to The Athletic, the Liverpool boss made the decision to let the youngster go as he believes a loan would be best for Ramsay’s development, with the German coach keen to ensure the youngster gets regular first-team action after missing so much football.

It is added that Ramsay remains part of Jurgen Klopp’s long-term plans and will be given more chances upon his return in the summer of 2024.

The move could be an indicator that Liverpool will sign another right-back in the summer as, currently, Trent Alexander-Arnold is the Reds’ only natural option.

Joe Gomez can also operate on the right, but the Englishman has found form hard to come by over the last year and Liverpool cannot rely solely on TAA for an entire season when competing in four competitions.
