Match Preview & Prediction
Borussia Dortmund is set to welcome struggling La Liga outfit FC Sevilla to the Ruhr Valley in their second group G match of this year’s Champions League group stage after the Bundesliga giants look to secure a guaranteed spot in the knockout stages of the competition in the wake of their 4-1 win away in southern Spain last week when these two sides locked horns at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Dortmund has once again been unable to capitalize on any struggle which domestic rivals Bayern Munch have endeavored this term and relied on a second-half substitute performance from summer signing Anthony Modeste to nick a point at home in a 2-2 draw against the Bavarians, Dortmund has been much better on the continental front and probably should be considered comfortable favorited here.
Sevilla has struggled in a big way in the top flight of Spanish football and their form on the European stage is surely directly connected to matters on the home front as the perennial European competitors currently sit in the bottom three and have managed just one win in La Liga thus far during a campaign where many begin to worry if the club has lost its ability to not just compete with the national elite, but survive the league at all given its current poor run of form.
Dortmund continues to have quite a few selection issues on hand but remains capable if they decide to show up for duty and should go into a home tie here confident of three points. With Manchester City likely to dispatch FC København, the club may be able to rest comfortably with passaged booked to the next round with time to spare.
Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Sevilla
