The player in question is Fabio Carvalho, who joined Liverpool from Fulham last summer for a minimal fee.
Carvalho made 21 appearances for Liverpool’s senior side in 2022/23. However, the majority of those outings came from the bench.
In the Premier League, Carvalho has featured 13 times but only two of those outings have lasted longer than 45 minutes and he is yet to complete 90 minutes for the Reds.
When Liverpool found form at the end of the season to secure 5th place, Carvalho played a total of eight Premier League minutes across two outings – being left on the bench or out of the matchday squad completely the rest of the time.
But given Carvalho is a natural left winger and Liverpool already have Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota who can operate in that role, it makes sense that the Portuguese did not see much action.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that RB Leipzig and Liverpool are closing in on a Fabio Carvalho agreement, which will see the winger join the German side on loan until the end of the 2023/24. It is added that the deal does not include a buy option clause at this stage:
