So far this summer, Liverpool have made two signings.
World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister was signed from Brighton last month for an initial £35m – a fee which may rise to £55m with add-ons.
Next up saw Liverpool spend £60m to trigger the release clause of RB Leipzig and Hungary star, Dominik Szoboszlai.
Both players are excellent signings for the Reds, who had a lot of issues with their midfield last year.
However, neither of the aforementioned signings were especially defensively minded.
So, it was expected that Liverpool would look to add a third midfielder this window who could provide more cover at the back.
The Frenchman is quick, powerful and would work well in a box-to-box role or even sitting at the base of Liverpool’s midfield.
Now though, according to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Jurgen Klopp will not pursue a deal to sign the highly-rated 22-year-old.
It is added that the price of the player was not an issue but Romeo Lavia is now the player to watch.
Understand Liverpool now don’t plan to sign Khephren Thuram following Dominik Szoboszlai’s arrival. Talks NOT taking place with Nice this week. #LFC have explored the deal and price not an obstacle. Thuram available for far less than €60m. Romeo Lavia is the one to watch.🔴 pic.twitter.com/P13hfCVObt
