Tottenham’s attempts to sign Spanish defender Pedro Porro are thought to have been thwarted after selling club Sporting Lisbon moved the goalposts of the deal at the last minute, leaving the player distraught.
A deal for the Spaniard, which would see Tottenham pay 45m euros over two or three installments, was thought to have been agreed, and Porro himself said his goodbyes to the Sporting fans following their 2-0 League Cup final defeat to Porto on Saturday night.
And Sporting had even lined up a replacement, with former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin in talks over a move to Portugal from Spanish giants Barcelona, but that has now been put on hold too.
However, as per reports on Monday morning, Sporting have changed the terms of the deal at the last minute, and are now demanding the full release clause once more, something that Tottenham have spent all month trying to avoid paying and instead looking for other solutions.
There is no guarantee that a deal will not happen by the deadline, however, with Spurs and Sporting still in dialogue over a deal even after the current agreement has fallen through, though at present they are yet to find a new agreement.
And it could leave Tottenham, who’s focus all January has been on Porro, high and dry with only Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty on the right flank as options for Antonio Conte, amid reports that Djed Spence could be leaving on loan this window.
