After Erik ten Hag took over at United from Ajax, a number of the Dutch powerhouses’ top players have, of course, been linked with Manchester United.

Following the signing of Lisandro Martinez, Antony has become the primary name mentioned in the media. On paper, it seems like it could prove to be a solid bit of business from Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard has left the club for free, and Anthony Martial’s future looks to be through the middle as United’s main striker heading into 2022/23.

This would leave just Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho as natural wide players for the 2022/23 campaign.

So, signing someone of Antony’s quality would likely make a fair bit of sense for the Red Devils.

And Man United have been handed some good news on this front. First up, Ajax’s technical manager Gerry Hamstra did not close the door to further exits this summer in a recent interview.

“Of course, you can never say never and I have learned that by now. But we also talk about it with the players and have conversations, also boys who may have a wish to leave. Ajax players are drawn, that is logical.”

Now, Forbes journalist Sam Pilger has claimed United are ‘edging closer’ to signing Antony after Ajax decided to lower their asking price.

He said: “Antony is edging closer to Manchester United. There is an understanding Ajax are now willing to lower their initially unreasonable asking price and do a deal. United about to go back with another bid.”
