Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany has, on Saturday evening, responded to surprise suggestions that he could be in line to take up the reins at manager-less Chelsea.

The subject of the situation on the bench at Stamford Bridge, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the media headlines for several weeks now.

This comes after the Chelsea board opted to dismiss a 2nd manager of the season – Graham Potter following Thomas Tuchel out the door on the back of a dismal stretch of form.

Frank Lampard, in turn, has since been appointed on an interim basis for the remainder of the term.

It has long been common knowledge, however, that, come the summer, the powers that be in west London will set about appointing a long-term successor to Lampard.

To this point, a whole host of tacticians have been tipped for the post, albeit with options thinning, on the back of unsuccessful negotiations with both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.

Speaking to the media late on Saturday evening, the Belgian was therefore drawn on the chances of him swapping Turf Moor for Stamford Bridge over the coming months.

To say that Kompany was dismissive of the subject in his response, however, would be putting it lightly.

“I’m not engaging on any of these conversations,” he began.

“I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches. That’s the only thing I care about.”
