Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.
According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United are keeping tabs on players like Harry Kane and Rasmus Hojlund as well. But the Red Devils must look to sign a reliable finisher this summer and Watkins netted 15 league goals this past season.
However, with Aston Villa now set to be playing European football next season in a competition they will fancy themselves to win – especially under Unai Emery – Watkins’ sale may be a hard one to complete.
But unlike the aforementioned Hojlund, Watkins is proven in the Premier League, with his form in the second half of 2022/23 particularly impressive.
Manchester United currently only have the injury-prone Anthony Martial as a natural striker, with it clear at least one big name no.9 must be brought into Old Trafford this summer.
But as recent reports have put Hojlund’s price tag closer to the €80m mark, signing Watkins may be their best option.
