Traditional European powerhouse Germany continues toward cataclysm city after the four-time World Cup champion suffered yet another defeat under Hansi Flick in a 4-1 loss against Japan in Wolfsburg.
The heavy defeat against Samurai Blue is the fourth in the last five fixtures for Die Mannschaft under the former Bayern Munich manager, with preparations to host Euro2024 having completely fallen off the rails.
Coming into the current international break on the back of being ousted in the group stage at the 2022 World Cup for the second tournament running, Germany had just one win in five (2-0 vs. Peru) while suffering defeats at the hands of Belgium (3-2), Poland (1-0), and Colombia (2-0) while also laboring to a 1-1 draw against Poland.
Flick, who was already under the microscope in the runup to proceedings, has done himself no favors after tonight, with many now asking – if not demanding – the DFB dismiss him with immediate effect and replace him with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.
Debakel, Demütigung, Ernüchterung, Packung…choose your word…Hansi‘s time is up.

Hansi Flick can’t survive this if Germany want any chance of not being humiliated on home turf next summer. There’s enough time to salvage something by making a change now. Something about this team broke in Qatar and Flick can’t fix it.

Nagelsmann was shockingly sacked by Bayern last season despite pushing the club to an 8-0-0 record in the Champions League, but difficult results and questions surrounding performance levels in the Bundesliga led the Bavarian hierarchy to turn to Thomas Tuchel.
Though it is clear that Germany is bereft of the undeniable world-class talent in all areas of the squad compared to years past, there is more than enough quality in the player pool for a manager to extract far better performance levels than what has been on offer since the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League debacle.
