The player United are being linked with a move for is midfielder Davide Frattesi.

The Italian plays for Sassuolo and has been one of the standout stars in Serie A this season, hitting four goals so far.

Now, according to a report from Il Resto del Carlino, Manchester United are looking at Frattesi as a potential upgrade on Scott McTominay or Fred.

He is seen as an ideal player who will increase the quality of options in central midfield available to Erik ten Hag.

The report adds that Tottenham are a side likely to rival United for Frattesi’s signature.

No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report. However, as Frattesi is under contract with Sassuolo until 2026, it is hard to see them letting the midfielder go on the cheap, especially given his excellent goalscoring form from such a deep role.

He has made four appearances for Roberto Mancini’s side but he will, of course, not be playing this winter as Italy did not qualify for the World Cup.
