The player in question is Victor Osimhen. Osimhen is currently plying his trade in Serie A with Napoli, where he has scored 41 and assisted 13 in 80 outings to date.

13 of those goals have come in 18 outings across all competitions this term – a solid record and one much better than any of Arsenal’s current striker options.

As a result, it was not too surprising to see the Nigerian linked with Arsenal over the last few weeks.

Now, Manchester United are also seemingly on the trail of the hitman.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino’s report, via Goal, Arsenal and Newcastle are looking to rival Manchester United in their pursuit of Osimhen.

The report claims that Napoli will be looking to receive around £133m to sell Osimhen.

Anthony Martial is not a no.9 and Wout Weghorst, whilst he could prove useful in the second half of 2022/23, is not a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

As for Arsenal, neither of their current strikers are great goalscorers, and Osimhen would certainly help their title charge.

However, a move in January does seem unlikely given the mammoth sum Napoli reportedly want.
