Graham Potter has outlined his transfer stance on RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku following reports that the Blues had stolen a march on their rivals for his signature.

The French forward had a stunning campaign last time out, scoring 20 goals and grabbing 15 assists in 34 Bundesliga outings. He was in demand over the summer, but signed a new two-year deal that included a 60m euro release clause, setting up a departure this summer.

And it is Chelsea that have stolen a march on their rivals for his signature, with multiple reports claiming that the 24 year old underwent a medical for the Blues last summer in preparation for a move this summer.

“Nkunku had secret medical tests in Germany, with a Chelsea orthopaedist present, ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge next summer”, one report claims.

Understandably, new Blues boss Graham Potter was quizzed on the news ahead of his side’s clash with Crystal Palace this weekend, despite the Englishman not having been in charge when the alleged medical would have taken place.

And, in typical fashion, he refused to be drawn into speculation about players not currently contracted to Chelsea.

However, as per the Telegraph, “it is thought new head coach Graham Potter has been consulted over the possibility of signing Nkunku next summer”.

Should the versatile forward join, it would raise further question marks over the futures of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, all of whom have struggled to nail down a regular spot at Stamford Bridge since their arrivals.
