Arsenal’s interest in Caicedo first came about back in January and Mikel Arteta and co. were seemingly very keen to get a deal done.

The north Londoners saw bids of £60m, £70m and £80m turned down during the winter window.

Caicedo has continued on with the Seagulls and remained a key figure as they push for their first-ever European finish.

Now, Caicedo has spoken out on his failed move to Arsenal.

Caicedo told The Telegraph: “I was really close to going. I suffered a lot. I’m sure I’m going to have many more opportunities. That’s why I continue to do things well. [But] it was tough.

“At the beginning when I didn’t end up going, lots of people would make fun of me on Instagram. People treated me badly. I didn’t check my social media because it would hurt me to see things.”

With the summer window fast approaching, we are expected to see Caicedo’s future at the Amex called into question once more and as Arsenal still need fresh legs in midfield, they may come back in for him.

But as he is under contract until 2027, Brighton can likely demand whatever they want from the Gunners or any other potential suitor.
