Newcastle United are giving consideration to a move for an out-of-sorts member of the defensive setup at Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to reports.

The Blues star in question? Marc Cucurella.

Left-back Cucurella, of course, only made the move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Fresh off a stellar debut campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion, the powers that be at Chelsea agreed to fork over a hefty £60 million to bring the Spaniard to west London.

To say that Cucurella failed to reach the heights of his form in Brighton colours across his first season in Chelsea blue, though, would be something of an understatement.

All told, the 24-year-old managed starts in just 21 of his new club’s 38 Premier League outings.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then the former Getafe standout could soon be afforded an early exit route from Stamford Bridge.

This comes amid claims of interest in his services on the part of the aforementioned Newcastle United.

As per a report from The Mirror:

‘Newcastle have added Chelsea’s Spanish defender Marc Cucurella to their list of summer transfer targets as they plan for the Champions League.’

Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is understood to have green-lighted Cucurella’s sale with a view to next season.

With Newcastle headmaster Eddie Howe a fan of the Spanish international, a Magpies offer could therefore soon be incoming.

Todd Boehly and the powers that be in west London, however, would be forced to take a big hit on their outlay from last summer, with Newcastle’s valuation of Cucurella coming in around the £30 million mark.

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, meanwhile, is viewed as an alternative target to reinforce the left-back ranks at St. James’ Park.
