A return to the Champions League for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United continues to dominate the discourse on Tyneside this summer as the Magpies remain on the hunt for quality to add to the senior ranks at St. James’ Park, with the club now eyeing up England youth international right-back Tino Livramento.
The 20-year-old England U21 starlet has endured a torrid time on the south coast since his arrival from Chelsea two summers ago in the wake of a cruciate ligament rupture that saw him miss almost the entirety of a 2022-23 campaign that ultimately ended in Saints’ relegation to the Championship.
Despite question marks surrounding his fitness moving forward, the Magpies have been linked with making a serious push for the young talent according to The Telegraph’s John Percy.

According to Percy’s report, Livramento is now in Howe’s crosshairs as the club has planned to pounce on the Cobham Academy graduate due to Saints’ likely player exodus this summer, but remains a considerable distance away from reaching a resolution.
Newcastle are prepared to offer £15m for Livramento, but Southampton would be looking to receive a fee much closer to – or at – the £30m mark despite their current standing in the English footballing ladder. Such a fee would constitute a ~£25m profit on a player that was signed for around ~£5m while making just 30 appearances in two seasons at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The Magpies will no doubt be hoping for a reduced fee on the back of coming close to securing a £50m move for Sandro Tonali, which has eaten up the bulk of their summer transfer budget after the club remains committed to adhering to FFP regulations.
Newcastle also retains an interest in Saints captain James Ward-Prowse, but that is likely to not materialize on account of the club still needing to possibly make a move for a left-back to possibly upgrade on Dan Burns due to their upcoming European campaign in 2023-24.
