In one of the most shocking stories of the year, it was announced on Tuesday that Cristiano Ronaldo has had his Manchester United contract terminated.

This comes after Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan that saw him take aim at the club, the manager and many more.

Chelsea have been linked with a switch for the now former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo on a free transfer, though they may have to heed a warning from Lionel Messi, who previously claimed a return to the Premier League might not work out for CR7.

The Argentina international told Marca last November: “United are a very strong team with great players. Cristiano already knew the club, but that was at another stage, and now he has adapted in an impressive way. From the beginning, he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting.

“In the Premier League, it is not as good as we all thought, but it is a very difficult and even competition in which things take a lot of turns. After December, it changes a lot, and anything can happen.”

While it perhaps forewarned the difficulties at Old Trafford that were to come for Ronaldo, it also suggests the difficulties of the Premier League and how an even older Ronaldo may struggle if he were to be signed by Chelsea.
