Bundesliga upstarts RB Leipzig continue a summer transfer window surrounded by the need to replace key first-team outgoings at Red Bull Arena after completing a loan move for highly-rated youngster Xavi Simons.
The 20-year-old former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain academy attendee exploded onto the European scene with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in his first full season of senior football in the Eredivisie last season, bagging 19 goals in 34 appearances while finishing as the league’s joint top goalscorer.

Simons, who confirmed the loan move via his personal Twitter account, fielded heavy interest from big clubs around Europe this summer, including Premier League runner-up Arsenal as well as former club PSG.
The Parisian outfit was able of triggering a buy-back clause they had inserted into negotiations before originally selling Simons to PSV, but despite their desire to bring the versatile Dutch international forward back to the Parc des Princes, Simons appears to be wholly against that possible avenue.
RBL has done well to replace the sales of both Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea and Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool this summer, not just with the loan move for Simons as well as Liverpool youngster Fábio Carvalho, but also a club-record move for Belgian international striker Loïs Openda from RC Lens as well as “calling-up” Slovenian starlet Benjamin Šeško from sister club RB Salzburg.
Additionally, RBL sealed moves for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s Christoph Baumgartner, RB Salzburg’s Nicolas Seiwald, and PSG’s El Chadaille Bitshiabu. With Bayern trying to find its footing under Thomas Tuchel, and Borussia Dortmund on the cusp of potential tensions with manager Edin Terzić, 2023-24 could be a memorable season in Saxony.
