Gakpo was linked with a move to the Premier League at the start of the season, with Manchester United leading the race.

However, it then emerged late last month that Liverpool have agreed a six-year deal with the winger that will see PSV net a guaranteed £37m.

Gakpo is now expected to make his debut for the Reds this weekend when they face Wolves in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United, meanwhile, still need to add some firepower to their attack with their only striker at present, Anthony Martial, struggling to be clinical in front of goal.

Now, Ben Jacobs has revealed how Ten hag reacted to Gakpo joining Liverpool over Manchester United:

“It’s crystal clear that, internally, Erik ten Hag wanted the player, and Manchester United started a dialogue on the player’s side to get a full buy-in,” Jacobs said.

“If the Glazers have this outgoing plan, then it would be logical that they wouldn’t want to spend that kind of money even if Ten Hag wanted the player.

“Ten Hag wanted to move for Gakpo and is very disappointed that Liverpool signed him.”
