Manchester City capped off their historic 2022/23 season in style last weekend when they beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the final of the Champions League.
After securing the FA Cup the week before and beating Arsenal to the Premier League title, Man City are just the second team in PL history to win the treble.
The Citizens now have the task od defending all three of their trophies in the 2023/24 season.
However, they are expected to face a lot more competition in the forthcoming campaign as Liverpool are rebuilding well after finding form at the back end of 2022/23, Chelsea have huge financial resources and are expected to do well under Mauricio Pochettino, whilst Arsenal will be in the top-four mix once more.
So, City fans are likely expecting improvements to their squad to help them once again dominate.
And now, Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the Manchester outfit’s plans for the summer: “Manchester City have a few priorities this summer. The first is to get captain Ilkay Gundogan to extend. The club are awaiting his decision. Nothing is decided yet, but it will be very soon.
“All clubs are put off by Leipzig’s valuation, which will be at least £85m (€100m). This means paying a world-record fee for a defender, which is currently set at the £80m Manchester United paid Leicester for Harry Maguire in 2019.
“Player buy-in is going to be key if the price is to drop. Meanwhile, Gvardiol’s Croatia teammate Mateo Kovacic is going to be far more attainable. Kovacic has already accepted personal terms with Manchester City and there is optimism a fee with Chelsea can be agreed.”
