The Cinderella story that is Belgian outfit Club Brugge and their run into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League are set for another chapter in the round of 16 when former Fulham manager Scott Parket takes up his position in the technical area at Jan Breydel Stadium when Blauw-Zwart welcomes Portuguese giants SL Benfica to Flanders.

Brugge did exceptionally well to finish runner-up in Group B ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid and will certainly not be taken lightly on a night where home support will be in full voice, but struggles in the Jupiler Pro League that currently sees the club sit 20-points behind regular season leaders KRC Genk and inconsistency in front of goal will be hurdles that Parker and co. must negotiate if they are to spring a surprise of Wednesday night’s opponents.

Predicted Club Brugge KV XI

Club Brugge KV Team News

  • Out: N/A
  • Doubt: Tajon Buchanan, Andreas Skov Olsen, Ferran Jutglà

Scott Parker will have a handful of possible selection headaches on Wednesday night, leading with the possible unavailability of Canadian international winger Tajon Buchanan who came off injured during the later stages of their recent clash with upstarts Union Saint-Gilloise. Should he be fit, he will most assuredly start and will face a race against time to be available.

Danish international winger Andreas Skov Olsen and Spanish forward Ferran Jutgla are also doubts for matchday selection, but Dutch international Noah Lang should be fully capable of coming into the side for Skov Olsen should he not pass fit in time.
