An alarming update on the wellbeing of Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey has come to the fore late on Sunday evening.

For those not aware, this comes after Ramsey was back in action on the international stage, for England’s U21s.

Lee Carsley’s troops, as a collective, enjoyed a fine evening’s work, battling past Portugal courtesy of a solitary Anthony Gordon strike, to book their spot in the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Ramsey, however, set alarm bells ringing back at Villa Park, in being forced into a premature departure from proceedings at the Ramaz Shengelia Stadium.

After pulling up with what appeared to be an ankle concern, the 22-year-old was replaced by Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe midway through the 2nd-half.

Speaking to the media on the back of proceedings coming to a close in Kutaisi, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Ramsey’s fitness was put to Lee Carsley.

“We’ll assess Jacob tomorrow. We won’t be taking any chances. If there’s a chance of a player with injections, they won’t be doing that. It’s still development football. Jacob’s in good hands. He’s got a lot of numbness in his foot and ankle.”

Not only that, but Ramsey was spotted making use of a pair of crutches in departing the stadium:
