The champions will be aiming to finish the year on a high when they meet with Fiorentina at the San Siro with AC Milan now into third in the Serie A table and eight points adrift of league leaders Napoli ahead of a visit from Fiorentina
While the champions are still in with a shout of a title charge when action resumes in January, as time goes on, it is looking more and more likely that Napoli will run away with this league. A victory for Milan here and a loss for Napoli would bring the gap to five points, and with Lazio heading to the in-form Juventus this weekend too, there is a great chance for Stefano Pioli’s men to get themselves back into second at least.
Milan edged past Spezia last weekend, and Olivier Giroud will be able to return here after he missed the midweek draw with Cremonese due to suspension. The Frenchman will be needed, as his presence up top was clearly missed when Milan failed to beat the winless 18th-placed side.
As for Fiorentina, they are in 10th right now and as long as they can match or better the result of Salernitana this weekend, they will be in the top half of the table until January. Better yet, the Florence outfit have been able to put together a sensational run of five games with a win, beating Istanbul Basaksehir and RFS in the Europa Conference League, while also beating Spezia, Sampdoria and Salernitana in Serie A.
This is, however, the first time they have faced someone above them in the league table since losing to Inter Milan three weeks back.
