It’s arguably the biggest game in Serie A this season as the unbeaten league leaders Napoli look to make one giant stride towards cementing themselves as the favourites to win the league when they head to Bergamo to meet with Atalanta.
The Bergamo side themselves are in a title race still, despite despite a defeat to Lazio two weeks back that created a five-point gap on the league leaders. Atalanta returned back to the win column immediately after by beating Empoli 2-0 and remain second in the league and the closest rivals to Napoli.
Atalanta are also ahead of the champions AC Milan by one point, and with the league’s best defensive record of only eight goals conceded, they are proving to be a seriously tough team to beat. In fact, that loss to Lazio remains their only one this season, as they are not playing European football this campaign.
Napoli, however, lost for the first time in all competitions over the weekend when they met with Liverpool at Anfield two months after smashing the Reds 4-0 in Naples. The Serie A giants lost 2-0 at Anfield, with the game at 0-0 until Mohamed Salah scored in the 85th minute.
Napoli remain the team to beat in Serie A, however, as they hammered Sassuolo 4-0 last time out when Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick for his side. This also came after a 1-0 win over Roma, and you have to go back to late August to see the last time Luciano Spalletti’s side dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Lecce.
