The champions will be looking to bounce back immediately when they travel to meet with Empoli this weekend just two weeks after their stunning 2-1 loss to Napoli at the San Siro created a three-point gap on the league leaders.
Despite the defeat to Napoli, Milan are still right in there during the early stages of this Serie A title race. As of now, the gap is three points, but with victories over the likes of Inter Milan already, there is still a bit to shout about for the champions. Milan are also doing significantly better in Europe this season, following a 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg and a 3-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb, just a week out from playing Chelsea.
Milan have, in reality, got many of their tough early fixtures out the way by this point as well, after a 1-1 draw against Atalanta and a victory against Inter too. Further wins over Sampdoria and Bologna keep them well in the running to collect all three points in this game.
As for Empoli, things could have gone much sweeter for them this season after picking up just one win so far and scoring only six goals – no side outside of the bottom three has netted fewer. Empoli are also coming into this one with four draws and two losses, but with a commendable defensive record of only seven let in.
Milan will be aiming to strike back in Serie A straight away, and with a trip to Stamford Bridge to worry about next week, there is a lot riding on this game after losing to Napoli not too long ago.
