Empoli will be targetting a spot in the top half of Serie A this weekend with the visit of Spezia to the Carlo Castellani Stadium with the away side still sitting just above the drop zone but with a healthy gap on Hellas Verona.
Regardless of the result in this game, Spezia will remain just above the relegation spots. They do, however, have a worse goals difference than Verona in 18th and they could find themselves within just a point of the bottom three at the end of this week.
Spezia have lost their past three Serie A games and failed to score a single goal. Roma beat them 2-0 before Bolgona did the same to them. Back at the Stadio Alberto Picco, Luca Gotti’s men lost 3-0 to the league leaders Napoli last weekend.
As for Empoli, they have not won since their excellent 1-0 win at the San Siro over Inter Milan. The club are behind Juventus in 10th by only goals difference and adrift of ninth-placed Bologna by three points. It does now mean that Empoli could find themselves within the top half of the table if results go their way this weekend.
