Both Edinburgh derbies this season have finished goalless, with these two last playing out three successive scoreless draws in 1988. Before this, their last three league meetings had all produced away wins, two in Hearts’ favour. Hibs are unbeaten in four visits to Tynecastle, their longest such streak since 1978.

Both teams to score is 19/20.

Heart of Midlothian to win and both teams to score is 7/2.

Liam Boyce’s only career goals against Hibs was the winning penalty in a Scottish Cup semi-final on Halloween 2020. He is 9/2 to break the deadlock and 8/5 to score anytime.

Match preview

The first of two Edinburgh derbies in the next seven days with these two battling it out in the Scottish Cup semi-finals next Saturday at Hampden.

But, back in the Premiership, it’s Heart of Midlothian who very much have the upper hand, sat three places and 16 points clear of their rivals.

Barrie McKay equalising shortly after his team had gone behind in the Highlands.

This means Hearts remain third, 14 points clear of fourth, almost mathematically certain to finish in that all-important position.

Remember, third spot secures guaranteed European group stage football next season, something Hearts have never previously enjoyed.

That is unless Hibernian beat Hearts next weekend and then go onto win the Scottish Cup.

For now, Shaun Maloney’s side are just looking to get back to winning ways, drawing 1-1 with Dundee United last weekend.

Harry Clarke, on loan from Arsenal, with his first goal for the club in that one.

This means Hibs are winless in five, drawing four of those, so are now down to sixth in the table.

If the visitors do not win this derby, chances are they’ll be overtaken by someone, thereby condemning the Hibees to a bottom six finish.

Will Hibs get the victory they need to will Hearts be too strong at Tynecastle?

Heart of Midlothian team news

Michael Smith, John Souttar, Cameron Devlin, Beni Baningime and Gary Mackay-Steven are all injured.

Despite the latter, they have plenty of winger options.

Barrie McKay and Aaron McEneff started last weekend, the former scoring, with Ben Woodburn and Josh Ginnelly viable alternatives.

Stephen Kingsley will continue to fill-in at centre-back but Alex Cochrane is fit to play on the left with Andy Halliday returning to midfield.

Hibernian team news

Scoring goals continues to be an issue with Kevin Nisbet out and Martin Boyle still their top-scorer, despite joining Al-Faisaly in January.

Elias Hoff Melkersen scoring a brace in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals and this would be a good time for him to score his first Premiership goal.

Chris Mueller and Sylvester Jasper started in-behind against Dundee United with Christian Doidge out injured.

Ryan Porteous will serve the second of his four-game ban but, crucially, his is available for next Saturday’s match at Hampden.
